Topic: Workplace Investigations: the HR POV
Conducting workplace investigations and navigating complex ER issues are some of the most challenging responsibilities that HR professionals take on. A poorly conducted investigation can cost a company financially, damage it’s reputation and impact employee experience. Every investigation is unique and complex cases can overwhelm even the most experienced employment investigators. This interactive session will provide you with a investigative framework, as well as practical tools and techniques as you prepare to conduct your own workplace investigations.
Presented by: Amber Stepp
Amber Stepp is an experienced HR Leader with a passion for business partnership and employee experience. She is currently a Senior HR Partner for Amazon's Corporate G&A team supporting Global Corporate Affairs, Legal, Finance, Security, and Business Corporate Development. In her previous role, Amber was a Program Manager and Senior Investigator for Amazonian Experience and Technology and was responsible for resolving employee escalations that were emailed to Jeff Bezos directly or Amazon’s Ethics Line. Amber has also worked for Wells Fargo Bank, providing enterprise wide support as a Senior Employment Investigator. She focused on Title VII allegations (Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Harassment/Assault, Executive allegations, and Workplace violence). In that role she acquired a deep knowledge of employment law and workplace investigations as these were the most complex and high risk escalated ER issues. In addition, she worked as an HR Manager for GE Nuclear (A sub business of GE Power) where she was supporting multiple lines of business to include Engineering, manufacturing operations, and corporate functions. She is serving her 11th term on the LCFHRA Board of Directors and is excited about returning as Board Advisor for 2023! She has been an active member of LCFHRA since 2011 and a member of SHRM since 2009. She graduated with a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management from Webster University. In addition, she has been a SHRM instructor for the SHRM-CP & SCP Certification exam prep course since 2015, helping HR professionals across the state achieve SHRM Certification. Amber and her wife Amy live in Leland with their children, 3 cats, and 1 dog (and usually one or two foster cats for fun).
