Topic: Addiction in the Workplace

The program will explore various laws which will apply in the workplace, including ADA and FMLA.  Attorney Patino will discuss random and for-cause drug screens, protected leave, and reasonable accommodations in the workplace for those with Substance Use Disorder.


Presented by: Nicole Patino

Nicole Patino is an attorney with the Law Offices of L. Nicole Patino with offices in Greensboro, Asheboro, and Wilmington, North Carolina. She regularly advises and represents businesses and employees with employment and labor issues, including NLRB and ERISA matters, handbook drafting and revisions, employment agreements, severance packages, and claims under Title VII. Ms. Patino also regularly represents supervisors and managers when they are sued in the course and scope of their employment. Prior to law school, Attorney Patino worked as a substance abuse counselor and uses that experience in practice, interpreting medical records, evaluating emotional distress damages, and assessing the credibility of witnesses. Ms. Patino is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, Greensboro Bar Association, High Point Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar Association (member, Labor and Employment Law Section).  She also acts as the Legislative Chair for LCFHRA. She earned her Undergraduate and Graduate degrees from Virginia Tech and her J.D. degree from Elon University School of Law.
